HP ML110 G4 Problem with network connection
Hi all
I have a HP ML110 G4 server, and I am experiencing a problem with the network connection to this server.
Server info:
HP ML110 G4
It is a new clean install
Problem:
The server is invisible in the network, and if I try to тАЬpingтАЭ the server I only get one тАЬreplyтАЭ, and then тАЬrequest timed outтАЭ for the rest.
But if I do some kind of network activity on the ML110 server, for example, opening the browser to the start page, the server gets visible on the network, and I can get access to the shares on the server.
After 3-5 min. inactivity on the network for the ML110 server, it gets invisible again, and cannot be reached before I do some kind of network activity on the server again.
Solution:
Anyone who have a solution to this problem?
Best regards
Anders

Re: HP ML110 G4 Problem with network connection
Hi Anders,
You don't mention the operating system however I will assume you are running Windows Server 2003. Try updating the Broadcom driver first.
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/25512.html
If that fails try updating the Broadcom NIC firmware.
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/25926.html
If you need drivers for another O/S then select your server model and O/S from here.
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/
I hope this helps.
Brian

Re: HP ML110 G4 Problem with network connection
Hi Brian
Thx for the links.
The operation system is Windows XP Professional, and yes, I know it├в s not supported by HP, but the machine is working just fine except for this idle state, that the network card hangs in.
I have tried to update the firmware and driver, but still the same problem├в ┬ж
So I guess my last attempt to fix this problem, is to add a PCI network card, unless you have another idea to what might be wrong.
Best regards
Anders

Re: HP ML110 G4 Problem with network connection
Hi Anders,
The ML110 G4 uses the Broadcom NetXtreme 5721 Gigabit NIC. If you haven't already tried this - use the Broadcom drivers rather than the HP ones for Windows XP.
They can be downloaded from here.
http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netxtreme_server.php
Apologies if you have already tried this.
Regards,
Brian
