HP ML115 G5 1610 Temperature Violation

Hi,

Not sure why my server keeps telling me that I have a temperature violation, I have checked all the fans and they work without a problem.

One thing that I aren't sure of is the heatsink, one side of the heatsink which is towards the back of the unit, ishigher than the other side is that normal.

As I don't have another to compare it to

Thanks in advance

What temperature is on the HP Insight Management tool? Run a diagnostic on the fans? Did you upgrade the firmware? You might want to check the new firmware to see if it includes a temperature bug fix. What is the temperature in the server room?

Re: HP ML115 G5 1610 Temperature Violation

not sure about the management tool as its running as a vmware server

The room is cool.

I will check the firmware

btw what about the heatsink?

You could reseat the heatsinks and reapply thermal paste to them. Boot the smart start CD and run a diagnostics. Backup if you have data on it.

Re: HP ML115 G5 1610 Temperature Violation

Hi,

Update the Lights-Out 100 Remote Management Firmware to Version 3.11 (or later) to resolve this issue:

Refer following customer advisory for more information:

Re: HP ML115 G5 1610 Temperature Violation

Hi, I tried to replace the heatsink with a coolermaster one, but when the server boots it gets past the BIOS then turns itself off

any reason?

Re: HP ML115 G5 1610 Temperature Violation

It requires HP components. Use only HP heat sink. If you think its the heatsinks causing the issue, replace them with HP replacement parts.

Re: HP ML115 G5 1610 Temperature Violation

How would it know what heatsink it is?

Re: HP ML115 G5 1610 Temperature Violation

First try removing, cleaning off the thermal paste with rubbing alcohol and reapplying a thin coat. Clean both CPU and heatsink. See if it being higher means its not seated correctly.

Re: HP ML115 G5 1610 Temperature Violation

I've also had the same issue 610 Temperature Violation on my HP ML115 G5

and the heat sink was also at an odd angle

The Heat sink should be flush to the CPU chip

It looks like the plastic bits on the heat sink (that screws down) occasionally snap off

- a bit of a design flaw in my opinion
