HP ML150 G2 Embedded SATA controller with Fedora

I'm trying to install Fedora Core 4 without any luck. I have used the RedHat ES4 and ES3 and even ES4 64bit without any luck.

I have tried many different ways. With FC4 I only see one way of adding drives by using the "linux dd" command. I also have tried using linux dd acpi=off because of what someone else in the forums suggested.

The hard drives are SATA 160gb's in a RAID 1. It looks like the array is working fine but when the install starts, I get the "no hard drive found" message.

Suggestions?

ML150 G2 SATA would not support suse, RH or even Fedora.
If you are keen to win, you should be willing to lose.

I don't know if can be useful for you, i found this article about the ML 150 Sata Controller
http://www.h07.org/?q=node/40, i was not able to use this information, but i think that if u install on a ide drive as primary master (you must boot from floppy to install fedora) and compile modules for FC you may correctly install the controller, i also found an article on linuxquestions. org about the same problem.

Re: HP ML150 G2 Embedded SATA controller with Fedora

Hello there, well, my english is poor so, like an indian :)
I have been instaled fedora 4 en a ML150 G2 last week, i red a little how to:
http://www.keffective.com/mvsata/
and..
http://ukai.org/b/log/hp/proliant
http://www.edoceo.com/liber/marvell-sata.php

There are some tricks, so I├В┬┤ve downloaded the patched driver source at:

http://www.keffective.com/mvsata/FC3/mvSata-3.4.2a-patched.tbz ,compile it and probe it!

There is a i686 compiled driver for u brand new fedora after install it: http://www.keffective.com/mvsata/FC3/mvsata-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4.tgz
driver module for ur 1329 kernel version. (to install fedora u need the i586 one).
Finally, I install a CentOS 4.2... its more similar to RHEL4 (its has HP support.
Tell me if its works! If not come back! I have the compiled drivers for all Stages of CentOS instalation. :P

Re: HP ML150 G2 Embedded SATA controller with Fedora

Thanks for the replies. I've used a lot of the links in particular the http://www.keffective.com/mvsata/ .

I started the Fedora installation, got into GUI install mode, switched over to a console so that I could install the pre-compibled FC4 Marvell SATA drivers for my architecture [i686] and my kernel version [FC4 2.6.11-1.1369]. It looked like everything was successful except for the dreaded

no version for "struct module" found
&
partition table unknown

when I do a dmesg in the console. I attributed the second message to the face that the hard drives are not setup yet but if I do an fdisk, they say that the /dev/sda and /dev/sdb are unknown and cannot be accessed.

I'm going to try to compile the drivers myself but it looks to be the driver I need.

I changed my drive configuration and deleted the array in the SATA controller bios - before I had the hardware creating the array - I can plan to just use the software raid instead.

What did you have for your hard drive configuration on the controller? JBOD? RAID? something else?

Any other helpful suggestions?

Re: HP ML150 G2 Embedded SATA controller with Fedora

Men! U must use the i586 architecture one to wake up the drivers under the instalation process, then, before reboot the system, alt+F2 again, and copy the mv_sata.ko (i686 one) to the mnt/sysimage/lib/modules/2.6.11.1-1369/kernel/drivers/scsi/ .
and finally do the depmod and mkinit stuff.
The i686 one is used after the instalation finished to boot up ur system. May be a i586 compiled driver is here :
http://www.keffective.com/mvsata/FC3/mvsata-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4.tgz
Do a
--
bash$ strings mv_sata.ko |grep magic
--
to see wich kernel version it has.
Hope for luck this shot.
Saludos!
