HP NC373i virtual bus device

once the new server was installed with Windows 2003 Std, when you log on for the first time, and every time there after it always comes up with the message
"cannot install device
HP NC373i virtual bus device
Fatal error during installation"
I am assuming this is the network controller, as no network is available.

Can somebody help me on that?

Re: HP NC373i virtual bus device

hi

I'm assuming that is a G5 server for the NIC card

install this driver for the NIC Cards and let me know

it is a previous version for the Driver you have right now so that will solve the issue

Re: HP NC373i virtual bus device

hi

well yes also that model (it is like the G5 for the Dl385 servers) has the same NIC so that link will work

what I mean those NIC cards have that issue try that driver and let me know

I've seen this issue twice after proliant support pack 7.9 or 7.91 is installed in the server so do you have the latest Proliant support pack (that includes all the drivers for your server)

so in the case you already installed Proliant support pack(PSP) install the driver in the link I posted

-
just in case PSP link 7.91

Re: HP NC373i virtual bus device

I am having the same fatal error except on Windows 2003 64-bit version.

I have the latest 7.9.1 Smart Start installed.

Are you suggesting that I install 2.8.18.0 version of the driver on Win2003 64 as well?

Is this the driver I should install?
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=1121516&swItem=MTX-9be6178e123c4464802a6af2e0&prodNameId=3288134&swEnvOID=1113&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=2

Why wouldn't the latest Smart Start have addressed this issue?

Re: HP NC373i virtual bus device

I also cannot install the drivers for the HP NC373i or MC373m Virtual Bus Device versions higher then 2.8.18.0 on Windows 2003 R2/SP2 x64. Version 3.4.10.0 or higher fails to install, which then makes the Network Adapters disappear. Version 2.8.18.0 or earlier work. I was able to update two other identical x64 machines to version 3.4.10.0 for both the network adapters and virtual bus devices, so I'm puzzled as to why this server will not update, either manually, by the driver installer, by the support pack or remote deployment. Please help, thanks!

Re: HP NC373i virtual bus device

In examining the wdf01005inst.log file, it led me to deleting the edb.log file, then reinstalling the network drivers was successful. Hope that helps!!! Brett
