Description:
HP NC7761 Gigabit Server Adapter: The network link is down. Check to make sure the network cable is properly connected.
Data:

0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
It connects a moment or two later but it's causing issues. The NIC appears to be operating normally in the HP System Management Homepage.
I'm getting this error just before the disconnect but I'm not sure if it is related:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: BROWSER
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8032
Date: 3/5/2008
Time: 5:16:47 AM
User: N/A
Computer: POS-FILE
Description:
The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{794FA32C-F95E-4EC2-AD2B-0FDFE138F8D8}. The backup browser is stopping.
I get the browser error every few hours and can't figure out how to fix it. I have another server POS-SBS and that server is the master browser.
Any ideas on how to fix the NIC issue and keep the server online 24/7?
Thanks.

Re: HP NC7761 NIC card disconnecting for no reason
Uninstall the NIC from the Windows device manager. Then install the latest NIC driver.
Replace your cable between your server and switch.
Try another port on your switch. Do you have a quality switch? If it's managed, update its firmware.

Re: HP NC7761 NIC card disconnecting for no reason
I have three switches:
Cisco Linksys SRW2048
3Com 3C16486
Netgear FSM7505
The File server is on the Netgear and the Mail server is on the Linksys.
I did notice that the mail server and file server are both disconnecitng from the network at exactly the same moment in the morning.
File Mail
6:41:03 6:41:03 Both go down
6:41:29 6:41:34 UP
6:41:32 6:41:49 DOWN
6:41:34 6:41:52 UP
My firmware on all the switches is up to date and no one else connected to those switches are having any issues.
I've updated the NIC drivers on both servers from 10.42.0.0 to 10.62.1.1, both already had the latest firmware.
Any other suggestions as yo what I can try?
Thanks.
