HP NC7781 Adapter
I have a Proliant DL380 G3 with 2 HP NC7781 Gigabit Server Adapters. I'm trying to figure out if one NIC has a hardware or software problem. One NIC connects fine at 1000 Speed. The other NIC connects sometimes at 10 and sometimes at 100 but never 1000. I'm trying to Team them so I would like it to run at 1000. I ruled out cable by using the good NIC's cable. And I ruled out switch port by using the good NIC in the bad NICs port. I've updated drivers and firmware. When I run the HP Network Configuration utility and run a diagnostic on that NIC it passes all tests (control registers, MII registers, eeprom, memory, interrupt, loopback) but it fails CPU. Does this mean there is a hardware problem (system board needs replacing) or is there any other tests I can run? Is there a test during bootup I can run. Not real familiar with Compaq's. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: HP NC7781 Adapter
Hi Dawn,
Before anything else I would make sure you are running the latest firmware on the server (for all components)
Easiest way is to download the ISO of the latest FW Maint CD, burn to CD and boot the server from it.
Latest version for the DL380 G3 is available here...
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=316529&prodNameId=3288130&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-26a0f9e294764a91b76b282f2a
Then check you're running the latest driver / network config util for your OS too.
Find here...

Re: HP NC7781 Adapter
Thanks - this has already been done as part of my troubleshooting.
