HP ProLiant DL 180 G6 P410 RAID recovering stuck at 1%

Hi,

We just have change an hard drive on a HP ProLiant DL 180 G6 with RAID controller P410 on RAID5 with 5 drive.

The the first logical drive start recovering, and since yesterday it is stuck at 1%.

I try to figure what was the problem with the HP Array Configuration Utility in CLI.

When I type "ctrl slot=1 show"

The result is:

"Smart Array P410 in Slot 1
   Bus Interface: PCI
   Slot: 1
   Serial Number: PACCR9SYI9BL
   Cache Serial Number: PACCQ9SYJ4DH
   RAID 6 (ADG) Status: Disabled
   Controller Status: OK
   Hardware Revision: C
   Firmware Version: 2.50
   Rebuild Priority: High
   Expand Priority: Medium
   Surface Scan Delay: 15 secs
   Surface Scan Mode: Idle
   Queue Depth: Automatic
Monitor and Performance Delay: 60  min
   Elevator Sort: Enabled
   Degraded Performance Optimization: Disabled
   Inconsistency Repair Policy: Disabled
   Wait for Cache Room: Disabled
   Surface Analysis Inconsistency Notification: Disabled
   Post Prompt Timeout: 0 secs
   Cache Board Present: True
   Cache Status: OK
Cache Status Details: A cache error was detected. Run a diagnostic report for
 more information.
   Cache Ratio: 25% Read / 75% Write
   Drive Write Cache: Disabled
   Total Cache Size: 256 MB
Total Cache Memory Available: 144 MB
   No-Battery Write Cache: Disabled
   Cache Backup Power Source: Batteries
   Battery/Capacitor Count: 1
   Battery/Capacitor Status: OK
   SATA NCQ Supported: True"

So I have generate an ADU (see attached file).

I have also try to change the controller cache ratio by this command "ctrl slot=1 modify cr=75/25" (the actual value is 25/75)

And for result I've got this:

"Error: This command did not complete properly. Please check your configuration
for possible hardware or configuration problems. Use the "show" command
on devices to show additional details about the configuration."

How can I identify the true problem and try to resolve it ?

Best regards.

John.

Re: HP ProLiant DL 180 G6 P410 RAID recovering stuck at 1%

Hi!

Are both logical drives stuck at x % ?

You have two logical drives and from ADU it looks like #1 is rebuilding and the second one is queued.

For LD2:

Drive Rebuilding 0x00

For LD1:

Drive Rebuilding 0x03

Probably, "hpacucli ctrl slot=1 ld all show" or something like that could give you more detail.

Re: HP ProLiant DL 180 G6 P410 RAID recovering stuck at 1%

Hi,

I only have the first logical drive stuck at 1%, the second one is waiting for the first to finish.

Here the result of the command you gave me:

"Smart Array P410 in Slot 1

   array A

      logicaldrive 1 (97.7 GB, RAID 5, Recovering, 1% complete)
logicaldrive 2 (3.5 TB, RAID 5, Ready for Rebuild)"

Thanks.

Re: HP ProLiant DL 180 G6 P410 RAID recovering stuck at 1%

Hey, too bad. So looks like there might be something off with the cache then. There are some "hard read errors" on 2I:1:5 but not since reset so might be fine.

I guess it's this that's causing some issues:

Cache Status: OK
Cache Status Details: A cache error was detected. Run a diagnostic report for
more information.

Some googling on that error message shows that firmware updates of the p410 might fix those errors. Firmware 2.50 is really old for the p410.

Re: HP ProLiant DL 180 G6 P410 RAID recovering stuck at 1%

Hi,

I will try to update the firmware then, but can I update the firmware while the raid is recovering ?....

Re: HP ProLiant DL 180 G6 P410 RAID recovering stuck at 1%

It's a dangerous position indeed.

And if upgrading the fw doesn't help then perhaps there is a problem with the cache as indicated and replacing/reseating that would be even more dangerous in terms of data consistency.

In the ADU report there was a field indicating how many blocks had been recovered/rebuilt, if that is not increasing at all then I guess the rebuild is not progressing at all anyway.

Backup before doing anything.

There are so many fixes between your version and the current version, have a look:

Update the firmware, you don't have a choice anyway.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP ProLiant DL 180 G6 P410 RAID recovering stuck at 1%

I have update the firmware to the 6.40 version.

Now the RAID is in state "Interim recovery mode" and doesn't want to recover....

I suspect the new hard drive to be faulty.

I will try to force a new recovery.

Keep you in touch.
