HP ProLiant DL180 G6 Server - restart by itself

Hi,

Would like to ask a question:
one of our HP ProLiant DL180 G6 Server tend to restart/shutdown by itself. It doesn't happen to other server with the same type, and with the same OS (Windows Server 2008).

I've checked in the event viewer, and it always said the cause:
Legacy API shutdown
0x80070000
restart
HP ProLiant System Shutdown Service: System is too hot or has lost cooling.
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
00000780

Is there any way to configure the system cooling for this server?

Thank you in advance.

Hi!

The only place I can think of is in BIOS - have you looked in there?

Maybe one of the fans are having a problem?
Can you look in the iML log - maybe that can tell us more?

Re: HP ProLiant DL180 G6 Server - restart by itself

The event log message indicates the server is shutting down because it "thinks" it might otherwise be damaged by overheating.

First, check the cooling fans of the server. Replace any non-functional fans. Make sure the server's air intake and exhaust vents are not blocked.

If all the fans are OK, the air vents are not blocked and the temperature in the server room is within supported limits, then see if the server's BIOS/firmware is up to date. If the firmware version is old, check the Release Notes on the newer firmware versions: if they say anything about fixing an issue with overtemperature shutdowns, you should definitely update the server's firmware.
