HP ProLiant DL380 G5
Hello, i have a HP ProLiant DL380 G5 5160 3.0GHz 4GB High Performance - (418315-421) with 2 Dual-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5160 @ 3.00GHz, 32GB of RAM and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition (32bit) all working fine. I tried installing 2 x Quad Cores over the weekend but the server would not turn on. The fans would spin at high speed and thats all it would do. No warning lights on the panel or beeps. I also tried each quad-core independently and that didnt work either. On rolling back to the old processors the server starts absolutely fine.
The Quad-cores i tried to install where the HP E5440 DL380G5 Kits (458585-B21) suggested to us by your reseller Insight UK ltd.
Would you please let me know how can i find out what the issue is and how can i upgrade my server to 2 x quad-core?
Thanks in advance.

Re: HP ProLiant DL380 G5
Hi Nicolas,
There are two different models of the DL380 G5 system board. One allows quad-core upgrade and the other does not. See this similar issue.

Check the system board part numbers to confirm the models you have installed.
Regards,
Brian

Hi Brian, i did come across websites explaining the version of the system board. But i was un able to locate such label. Do you know where about is it located?
The only label i found its a smaller board under the fans., which says 408791-001.
Thanks
Nico
