HP ProLiant DL380 G6 - Disk Cache

Gentlemen

Our organization owns a HP ProLiant DL380 G6, I wish to install Disk Cache on it. Now, in order for the cache to be Write Enabled, it must be a BBWC right? So, does this array controller (P410i Array Controller) support 1GB BBWC?  Or is it possible to use 1GB FBWC as Disk Write Cache?

Thank you for your support.

Best Regards

Correct, to enable write cache, the battery must be installed and working.  The P410i uses BBWC and there are options up to 1GB.  This info is from the QuickSpecs document of the DL380 G6.

Storage Controller:
Base Models: HP Smart Array P410i/256 MB Controller (RAID 0/1/1+0/5/5+0)
Available upgrades: 256MB, 512MB, or 1GB flash with BBWC, Battery kit upgrade (for BBWC), and Smart Array Advanced Pack (SAAP)

Re: HP ProLiant DL380 G6 - Disk Cache

Dear Mr. Robert Jewell

Sorry for the confusion here, but the "HP 1GB Flash backed cache - 534562-B21" doesn't have a battery right (since it's Flash Backed). So if I go for "534562-B21" write cahcing will be disabled. So which HP Part do I go for if I need 1GB Cache with a battery module (to use as a Write Cache)? Or is it possible to attach a Battery Module to "534562-B21" to use it as a Write Cache.

Thanks again.
Best Regards

According to partsurfer the kit will come with a capacitor module which acts as a battery to preserve the cache contents in the event of a power outage.

Re: HP ProLiant DL380 G6 - Disk Cache

Dear Mr. Bob

Thank you for your support. Hence, if I understand correctly, I can go for the 1GB FBWC and use it as a Write Cache since the capacitor acts as a battery.
