HP ProLiant DL385 G2 Server - slow copy

Hi,

I'm running FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE on this server.

# dmesg|grep ciss
ciss0: port 0x4000-0x40ff mem 0xfde00000-0xfdefffff,0xfddf0000-0xfddf0fff irq 18 at device 0.0 on pci6
ciss0: [GIANT-LOCKED]
da0 at ciss0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0
da1 at ciss0 bus 0 target 1 lun 0

# camcontrol devlist -v
scbus0 on ciss0 bus 0:
at scbus0 target 0 lun 0 (pass0,da0)
at scbus0 target 1 lun 0 (pass1,da1)
scbus1 on ciss0 bus 32:
scbus-1 on xpt0 bus 0:
< > at scbus-1 target -1 lun -1 (xpt0)

For first everything seems to be fine, but when I mount da1 and try to copy for example /usr to it, the process takes about 1 hour to copy ~8GB. That's really slow.

I'm trying to think that maybe it's not FreeBSD problem, but RAID controller by itself or something else.

FreeBSD != Linux. I don't think that this update will succeed on FreeBSD. By the way I think that there is something wrong with BIOS settings, not with FreeBSD by itself.

Hi,

What physical drives do you have connected to the P400 ? SATA or SAS ?

Do you have the BBWC option on the SmartArray controller... I don't have any personal experience with SAS controllers however on SCSI models, write performance could be very poor without the battery option which enables the write cache...

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Rob Leadbeater - you offer to turn on write cache? How this should be done? By the way how to know if RAID controllers have batteries or not?

TY 007 - thanks for the offer. I'll try it.

By the way statistics:

File: 635 MB

copy from da0 to da1 = 58sec.
copy from da1 to da0 = ~9sec.
