I'm running FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE on this server.
# dmesg|grep ciss
ciss0:
ciss0: [GIANT-LOCKED]
da0 at ciss0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0
da1 at ciss0 bus 0 target 1 lun 0
# camcontrol devlist -v
scbus0 on ciss0 bus 0:
scbus1 on ciss0 bus 32:
scbus-1 on xpt0 bus 0:
< > at scbus-1 target -1 lun -1 (xpt0)
For first everything seems to be fine, but when I mount da1 and try to copy for example /usr to it, the process takes about 1 hour to copy ~8GB. That's really slow.
I'm trying to think that maybe it's not FreeBSD problem, but RAID controller by itself or something else.
Solved! Go to Solution.

What physical drives do you have connected to the P400 ? SATA or SAS ?
Do you have the BBWC option on the SmartArray controller... I don't have any personal experience with SAS controllers however on SCSI models, write performance could be very poor without the battery option which enables the write cache...
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Rob
