HP ProLiant ML150 G2 SATA with Win2003Server: Bluescreen!

HP ProLiant ML150 G2 SATA with Win2003Server: Bluescreen!

We use a pretty new HP ProLiant ML150G2-Server with 2 SATA-drives 250GB in RAID-mode (mirrored). The OS is SmallBusinessServer 2003 (Windows Server 2003)

The server was installed in jan 2005 and worked perfect the first weeks.

Now we have the problem that the server occasionally crashes. Approximately one time each day the server shows a bluescreen, but with no additional information as usually known in windows bluescreens (STOP 0x000...)

Only a coldstart will reactivate the server and afterwards the raid-array sometimes shows it was degraded and had to be rebuilt. Sometimes the array only will be verified without rebuilding

So the question: Where should we start? Could that be a problem with the RAID-controller? The drives we believe to be OK since we have 2 spare drives and the problem occurs with any of the harddisks.

Any ideas?

most of the blue screen errors are either related to memory issues or the operating system itself. What is the exact stop error that is displayed on the screen??

The bluescreen doesn't show any information, this is the funny thing.

It is just a blue screen without any text on it!

Hi

Looks like there is some corruption from the OS side. You could try

1.Shutdown the server and run diagnostics to make sure everythign from the hardware side is good
2.If that comes clean then boot the server and see if there are any latest fixes or service packs need to be applied.
3.If this also does not work then it is good to involve the different vendors.

Please do all these after having a full good backup

Hi,

These problems are usually not because of RAID-Controllers. You should suspect it in the end. It looks more like a OS/Memory issue.

Re: HP ProLiant ML150 G2 SATA with Win2003Server: Bluescreen!

Hi!
I ran the diagnostics-tools but without any negative result.
The only newer driver I found was the Windows-SATA-controller-driver which I installed.
So we will have to wait how the system behaves the next days.

Any additional ideas appreciated!

Re: HP ProLiant ML150 G2 SATA with Win2003Server: Bluescreen!

Hi!

Unfortunately neighter the newer SATA-driver nor anything else could solve the problem.

The issue with the uncompleted setup cannont be the reason.

The following event is logged:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: EventLog
Event Category: None
Event ID: 6008

Power-problems can be excluded too since there is a UPS to supply the server and all its components.

So what the h... could be the reason? Any additional ideas?

Re: HP ProLiant ML150 G2 SATA with Win2003Server: Bluescreen!

We have contacted the HP-support. They told us they thought the systemboard to be the problem which would be a hardware-failure.

We are expecting the technician on monday, june 6th to replace the systemboard.

Hope this will solve the problem ...

Hi
did you solve your problem?
I had a similar problem due to defective raid card.
The only solution that worked (after the sobstitution of raid card, sata cables, Hdd backpanel, memory) was the rebuilt of sata array (and of course the rebuilt of microsoft SBS
