Re: HP ProLiant ML150 G3 CPU Upgrade
Hi,
ML150 G3 server is very old.
Is it worth it to buy a new processor?
It will be difficult to find both the processor as well as unnecessary investment. :S
There are two types of mainboards on this server.
The first type supports Dual-Core only processor systems and second type Quad-Core and newer Dual-Core processor systems
System board (used no eariler Dual-Core only processor systems) 410426-001
System board (used on Quad-Core and newer Dual-Core processor systems, but is backward compatable with older Dual-core systems that use eariler version system board) 436718-001
what type of motherboard you have?
Erdogan.

Re: HP ProLiant ML150 G3 CPU Upgrade
Hello Erdogan Temur,
The motherboard that I got from what I saw on the eBay purchase was:
HP Proliant ML150 G3 Motherboard 436718-001 436356-001 System Board
(Is there a more accurate area like in the BIOS to have the proper information?)
Currently I am running 2 processors 5130 and I know the system is old but it run Win2012R2x64 (8GB RAM) without a problem which is all that I need and I've already purchased enough to just have it up and running again and back from the grave.
The only reason I wanted to get better CPU's is to have it at its tip performance, currently used only for single IIS Web Server, PHP, SQL and Sharing Data which is all that it will ever be needed for. I love bring back to life old systems especially when you do not need super powerful system but good old realiable (not expensive) servers. :)
Anyhow, I am getting all carried away, so yeah... I wanted to know what is the top, best, performance CPU's that can work on it just to put the final touch.
Currently it has:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 64-Bit Standard
- HP Smart Array E200 (Firmware 1.86) running HOT SWAP - 6x 300GB SAS 15K RAID1+0
- 3 TB HDD for dedicated backup only
- USB HP External Floppy Drive which works (Yay!)
- 3 Optical drivers (1x IDE) (2x ATA BD-Burner/SecureBurn)
- 8GB MAx Memory
- 2x Intel Xeon 5130 CPU (2 Processors)
Have to say that I am very happy with it and always fun to see them run again.
So yeah, let me know your thoughts on this and what you would recommend.
Thanks a lot and good day!

Re: HP ProLiant ML150 G3 CPU Upgrade
Hello surferleo
That CPU, is it 100% Supported on my HP ProLiant 150 G3 Motherboard or how do I find out that it is?
It is a sweet CPU:
Intel Xeon E5645 SLBWZ Six Core CPU 6x 2.4 GHz, 12 MB Cache, 5.86 GT/s, Socket 1366
Definitely a Six Core would be wonderful and really efecient but I really, really, really, really need to make sure this WORKS @ 100% and not 99.99%
Note: I see that my current CPU is a socket 771 and not 1366
Thanks a lot for the suggestion!
