HP ProLiant ML150 G3 HDD expansion

Hello,

currently we have a ML150 G3 server with HP Smart Array E200 controller.

We want to expand the original hard drive configuration:

2 x 9BL146-784 on RAID 1+0
500GB 7.2K SATA

3 x 431943-002 on RAID 5
72GB 15K SAS

we are thinking about changing above configuration to this:

2 x 432341R-B21 on RAID 1
750GB 7.2K SATA

3 x 431944R-B21 on RAID 5
300GB 15K SAS

I am not sure if this controller will support this configuration and official HP partner also cannot answer this question.

The main problem is that information on supported disk sizes is quite disputed:

Here it says:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00715136〈=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=1157688&prodTypeId=329290

* Up to 3TB of total storage with 6 x 500GB SATA hard drives (3.5")
* Up to 1.3TB of total storage with 18 x 72GB SFF SAS hard drives

and here:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12460_div/12460_div.pdf

* Up to 6TB of total storage with 6 x 1TB SATA MDL hard drives (3.5")
* Up to 2.4TB of total storage with 8 x 300GB SFF SAS hard drives

in total that configuration would be 1,5TB in SATA and 900GB in SAS, but i'm not sure about size limits when mixing SAS and SATA drives and 1,3TB limit noted above is what scares me.

Are there any options to be sure if this configuration will work for me prior to buying the drives?

i cannot be 100% sure, but E200 plenty supports 300 GB SAS (don't know for 500 GB SATA, but it should).

if it was me, tell HP partner to call hp pre-sales support. If they are real partner they have.
