HP ProLiant ML150G6 turning on/off

Hi there,

we are small company using HP ProLiant ML150G6 with two mirrored harddrives, for accounting purposes, With 2008R2 OS.

We are thinking to set auto turn off for nights and weekends and then turn on every morning to save power.

What are options to set it start at specified time (cant find it in bios, and wakeonlan is slow for us),

and one more important thing, is it safe to such frequent turning on/off on this machine...???

thanks

Hey, do you have a UPS? Maybe you can control it via that one?

I would not do it. You don't know the issues powering the server back up. Your battery backup cache might show failure after so many restarts. You are better off leaving it on.

I know that its not desktop or notebook and server is built to run constantly, so what do u think is it safe to turning it off such frequently ?? or just for weekends..??

Re: HP ProLiant ML150G6 turning on/off

Could you be 100% sure that there is no activity on the server when it's being powered off?

Do servers use a lot of power when they are booting up?

Rebooting things may this often may cause problems, like Michael wrote.
