We have HP ProLiant Server ML350 G4. Installed OS is Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 with SP2 server with SQL Server 2005. Installed RAM is 8GB. The problem is that OS showing only 3.5GB RAM instead of 8GB. As per Microsoft web site the OS is supported to 32 GB. How can we solve the problem or whats the problem.

Physical Address Extension

The Physical Address Extension (PAE) allows 32-bit Windows systems to use more than 4 GB of physical memory.

How to enable PAE on Windows.

1. Click on Start.
2. Navigate to Control Panel.
3. Then click on System.

Tip: you can save some clicks by pressing the following key combination: + .

4. When the System Properties window opens click on the advanced tab.

5. Then click on Settings.

6. When the Startup and Recovery window loads click on Edit, after that the boot.ini file will open.

7. The boot.ini file will look something like this by default, make sure you select the OS you want to recognize the additional memory.

8. Add /PAE at the end of the string and youâ re good to go.

9. Now click on File.

10. And finally click Save to finish.
