HP Proliant DL360 G5 - Fan Solution Not Sufficient

We had one supposedly redundant fan fail, and this brought the whole server down. The server would no longer boot up with just one of the fans down saying "Fan Block 1 Failure", AND "Fan Solution Not Sufficient". I thought that these were supposed to be redundant, the other two were still working...Anyone have this happen on a brand new DL360 G5 before?

This Proliant DL360 G5 has three fan modules, but they are not redundants, the server will not boot if there is fan failure. If a fan module fails you might get a POST Error "1611 fan block 1 failure fan solution not sufficient fan solution failure" and the server shuts down after 3 seconds, to prevent overheating. It might happen that one of the three fan module connectors not being fully seated

What do you mean they are not redundant? Straight from HP's website: "What's more, the DL360 G5 steps up the fault tolerant in an ultra dense platform with redundant power, redundant fans, mirrored memory or online spare memory, embedded RAID capability, and full-featured remote Lights-Out management."

Yes! Each fan Module has three fans. If one fan from the fan module fails the server will be able to work, but if the fan module fails or the fan board module fails the server will not boot. The redundancy is on each fan from the fan module. You might have a fan module failure, so the server will not boot.
