Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
I mean about the driver and the floppy
most of the time you don't have to worry about
I mean W2003 includes the driver automatically
but the advantage about Smartstart(SS) is that you install drivers for other components in the server and also you can configure the RAID level using a graphic interface
------------ sooo
about SS and HP SIM
SS is for server deployment (installation, RAId level configuration, reports like IML, Array diagnostics, HW testing) on the other hand HP SIM lets you to monitor and maintenance server's infraestructure...
they are completetly different also you need to pay extra money for having HP SIM while SS comes with the server you buy
check this
SS
" SmartStart provides step-by-step ProLiant server deployment assistance. From array configuration and operating system installation to the update of optimized ProLiant server support software, SmartStart ensures a stable and reliable configuration. Included in the ProLiant Essentials Foundation Pack, SmartStart works with all ProLiant ML and DL 300, 500, and 700 series and BladeSystem (BL) servers."

while HP SIM
"monitor and control your environment which improves operational efficiency and reduces costs."

Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
[I'll remember the points for sure]
:-)
So the order of installation would be:
1) Hp SmartStart
2) windows 2003
2) PSP 7.9
3) HP SIM
is that correct?
thanks

Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
again (I wrote it again I check and was a little confused I did some mistakes)
"
this is related with some G5 servers don't worry about G4s, G3s and so on, PSP 7.9 has some issues with DL380 G5s and DL360 G5s In fact is something related with W2003 SP2 and PSP 7.9
** SP2 includes TOE and chimney by default which are causing some issues.
http://urlao.com/dl360nic
I have not heard about others G5s servers just DL380 G5s and DL360 G5s
like I told you install 7.7 or 7.8 and of course people are waiting for the next PSP version
I'm sure HP is working on that (I don't know when that is going to be)
"
so
"when & how do I know why its safe to install PSP 7.9"
when = only HP knows that
how = when PSP 7.9 when you have other server different that DL380 G5s and DL360 G5s
I hope this can help you

Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
I have setup using smartstart and deployed the server [As recommended].
For some reason, after the windows instalation - I am only able to see the first logical drive (which is a mirror).
Please see the print screen.

Is this a normal or did I miss something in the configuration.
Could it also be that I need to allocate Disk1 (as you can see on the diskmgmt.msc print screen.
thanx
