Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
for a basic Configuration.
1. OS/Smart Start CD
2. after installation completed
Proliant support Pack.
for the second CD these packages need license if you want to install them see some information on links
Hp Systems Insight Manager (monitoring tool)
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/index.html
Performance Management Pack
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantessentials/valuepack/PMP/index.html
Virtual Machine Management (Usually for VMWARE)Packhttp://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12110_div/12110_div.HTML
Server Migration Pack (it's a tool to clone server ols ones to new ones.)
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantessentials/valuepack/migrate/index.html
So like I told you
install your Os with the latest smart start
HP SmartStart CD ├В┬╗ 7.90
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/27730.html
after installation completed install Proliant support Pack 7.9 the latest one too
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/27534.html
after that depends on the information you read choose any other software.

Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
Thanks for yr reply.
Some of the stuff their just doesn't make sense.
What are the repercussions if I don't install:
- Hp Systems Insight Manager (monitoring tool)
- Performance Management Pack
the other two i.e
Virtual Machine Management (Usually for VMWARE)Pack and Server Migration Pack (it's a tool to clone server ols ones to new ones.) kinda of make sense.
That is use the VMware pack if you are using VMWare and use the Server migration pack if you are migrating from old to new.

Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
these are up to you
- Hp Systems Insight Manager (monitoring tool)
- Performance Management Pack
I mean what is the server for?
if you already read information about Hp SIM and the other and you feel you need install them go ahead but if your server is used for something normal....
in conclusion it depends of your environment and your needs

Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
in general these kind of tools are for small - large I don't know about your environment
but if you feel that you need them(and the money does not matter) try:
monitoring and alerts (HP SIM), security, patch and virus (Vulnerability and Patch Management Pack)
by the way
Performance Management Pack is installed when you install HP SIM
"PMP is automatically installed with HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) and operates in integration with HP SIM. "

Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
just a quick question - normally if I have a pc - i can boot and install windows 2003.
still trying to figure this thing out ...
so for the proliant why do i need to use the smartstart cd ?
could it be b/c it has the firmware or drivers ? sorry - it might sound to you as a dumb question.

SolutionIf you needs to omit SmartStart CD, you needs to first download your Array controller drivers for the OS you are going to install.
Copy the drivers into a floppy drive and load those during initial phase of OS installation.
NOTE: You might need to connect USB FDD before proceed or use USB disk key.
Once finished, you need to install rest of the drivers separately.
You might needs to install patchs too.
But if you need to do all these in smart way, use SmartStart.

Re: HP Proliant DL360 G5 Server Setup
then what's the difference btw smartstart and HP SIM?
Would it be appropriate to conclude that smartstart is the cd for the installation and HP SIM is the software to manage the server?
thanks for all your help so far.
