HP Proliant DL380 G5 - Battery-Backed Write Cache

Hello !

I have a question about HP Proliant DL380 G5 server.
I have this server with 4×146 GB SAS drives on P400 array.
Now I’m using RAID 5 but server is running out of free space.
So I want to extend it by the 4 new 146 GB drives.
My strategy is :
Expand array by using HP ACU, and then extend logical drive by diskpart tool.

In array accelerator table I have :

Present : YES
Cache status: Enabled
Accelerator Ratio : 100% read, 0% write
Total memory on controller: 256 MB
Battery pack Count : 0

So what does it mean ? I have an cache accelerator. but without battery ?

Can I expand my array in this case anyway ?

That’s what I found in reference guide :
“Confirm that the cache battery is connected and fully charged.”

Please advice

Thanks
Luke

hi, It looks that a battery is not attached to the controller, but you need one if you want to expand the array. It will not work w/o battery. Thansk regards,

Thanks for that !

One more question,

If I'll decide to create additional array I'll need BBWC too ?

Thanks !
