HP Proliant DL580 G3
I have two HP Proliant DL580 G3 servers. One server has quad processors. The other server has dual processors. Is it possible to take one processor out of the quad processor server and put it into the dual processor server so that each server can have 3 processors?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Re: HP Proliant DL580 G3
Hi KB Moore,
We should be able to move the processor from the other server. Each Server can run with 3 processors, When moving the processor be sure that all the processors are of the same FSB.
Regards,
Raj.

Re: HP Proliant DL580 G3
Ummmm.... I am afraid you cannot.
The most essential requirement when mixing Intel's CPU is ensuring FSB + Cache size + core-count the same.
Here is a table showing all the Intel CPUs and they can be mixed only if FSB + Cache + #Core matched.
http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/xeon.htm
It is traditionally CPU count is 1/2/4/8.
Thanks,
Gus
ps: Please assign points accordingly

Re: HP Proliant DL580 G3
All of the processors are the same. I found out from HP that each server will work with 3 processors provided that they are placed in slots 1,2, and 4. It is kind of quirky that it would not work in slots 1,2, and 3 but somebody from HP says I guess that was the way it was designed. I tried it and it works.
