HP Proliant DL585 G1 dual core upgrade
I have a DL585 G1 with 2 x 2.2GHz 848s. [OSA848CEP5AM, stepping C0]
The processor board is: 356783-001 (as# 011974-003)
RAM: 2GB of PC2100@266 MHz (4x512MB)
The system board is 356782-001
(as# 011977-001)
I wanted to upgrade it to 4 dualcore 875@2.2GHz. So, I upgraded the system BIOS (using the firmware update cd downloaded from hp site:
upgraded to ver 2007.02.14 A). Then, bought 4 processor boards: 382596-001 (as# 011974-003)
RAM: 2GB pc2700@333MHz (4x512MB)
875@2.2GHz: OSA875FKA6BS stepping E1)
The RAM chips have been tested OK.
When trying to boot, the server throws an error message:
Unsupported processor found in slot 1
Unsupported processor found in slot 2
System halted!!
I bought the processor boards, memory and processor after getting the part numbers from HP support. Even then the setup does not work. HP support guys are unable to help. I would be very grateful for any input on the problem.
Thanks.

383337-001
The new boards work fine if i use the 848 single core opteron. so, the board and memory seem to be fine. The only problem is when I try using 875 dual core opteron..

Re: HP Proliant DL585 G1 dual core upgrade
The setup I tried was:
2 New boards (382596-001) with 875 dualcore processors, 1GB (2x512 PC2700@333 MHz) on each board
The same setup with 848 processors works fine. Using 875 throws the error.
The 848 processors are from HP. The 875 processors were bought from market, and are not HP sold processors.
Thanks.

Re: HP Proliant DL585 G1 dual core upgrade
This information can be found in the Maintenance and Service Guide found here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00210164/c00210164.pdf
I checked the part # for your ppm and that is the correct one to be using.
If you are saying that the processors that dont' work are non-HP processors, you can always get them to exchange them for you for the proper ones, spare part # 390249-001 (2.2ghz dual core)
