HP Proliant ML150 G2, Raid Problem.

Hi, I have the Proliant ML150 Server.
It has a Adaptec PWA-NH2010M SCSI Card installed.
I have added a second hard drive same type as the first hoping to raid the two together.

I can see both SCSI drives in my computer and i can access them independantly, but i want to mirror raid them together.

But can i, I have tried all sorts, tried to install raid drivers but doesent work, tried the hp controll program and it says no compatible hardware installed.

Am i just being thick or cant this card support raid.

Please help as i am at a loss for what to do now.

John.

Re: HP Proliant ML150 G2, Raid Problem.

Hi,

You have to enable RAID System ROM and configure RAID Controller's option ROM.

The following is extracted form Proliant 100 Series Servers User Guide.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.During POST, press the F10 key to launch BIOS Setup Utility. If you fail to press F10 before POST, you will need to restart the server.

2.In the Advanced menu screen, select Advanced Chipset Control.

3.Set the Serial ATA field to Enabled.

4.Select the SATA Controller Mode option > Enhanced field.

5.Set the SATA RAID Enable field to Enabled.

6.Press F10, then select Yes to save the changes and close BIOS Setup Utility. The server automatically reboots.

To create a RAID volume (again a copy paste).

1.After the system reboots, activate the RAID Configuration Utility:
-For ProLiant ML110 G2 and ML150 G2 Servers, press CTRL+A.
-For ProLiant ML110 G3, G4, G5, and ML150 G3 Servers, press F8.

2.From the Option menu, select Array Configuration Utility.

3.Verify that two SATA drives are installed.

4.In the Main menu screen, select Create Array from the main menu. The system prompts a selection of RAID 0, RAID 1, or RAID 1+0.

5.Select a RAID level.

CAUTION: Back up any data stored on the hard drives before proceeding. The configuration process erases all data on the hard drives.

6.Press Esc. The system automatically configures the RAID level, erasing all existing data on the hard drives. This process can take up to 50 minutes, depending on drive capacity.

7.After configuration is complete, press Esc to exit the utility

That's what the user guide says. U can get it from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/CoreRedirect.jsp?redirectReason=DocIndexPDF&prodSeriesId=435422&targetPage=http%3A%2F%2Fbizsupport.austin.hp.com%2Fbc%2Fdocs%2Fsupport%2FSupportManual%2Fc00778641%2Fc00778641.chm

I'm not sure about ML 150, but I have set up RAID 1 on a ML110 G3 and I didn't have to erase my drive. I selected the previous drive as the Source Disk and when RAID 1 was implemented everything was replicated to the new drive.

I'm not sure how it will work on ML150 so better to back up.

I used the method described in the following thread. See James ~ Happy Dude's post on Jul 27, 2007 18:39:57 GMT)

Re: HP Proliant ML150 G2, Raid Problem.

hi

the point that ML150 G2 is using an SCSI card not the embedded SATA

and that card is not RAID compatible that's why you see you 2 HDDS normaly but there is not option for create RAID

Re: HP Proliant ML150 G2, Raid Problem.

hi

sorry I forgot to add my source why is not RAID capable

The HP 64-bit/133-MHz Single Channel Ultra320 SCSI HBA G2 provides customers with the flexibility and speed they have come to expect from HP. This HBA is ideal for HP tape arrays and larger non-RAID storage applications.

Dear Karlo,

I really appreciate you pointing out my mistake. I didn't notice that John's using a SCSI controller (careless reading)

Thanks for your help buddy.

Re: HP Proliant ML150 G2, Raid Problem.

Thanks guys I really do appreciate your help.

I just wish I asked for it before I bought the second hdd, 'o'well, I just have to decide whether I buy a new raid card or not.

If I do can anyone suggest a suitable alternative to the one I have.

John.
