HP Proliant ML150 G6: problem during the boot

Hello,

in our small office we've a Proliant ML150 G6 server that since 2 days doesn't work;

After pressing the POWER button, the PC starts properly but no image is showed on the monitor (the POST doesn't appears, the monitor is black);
I checked that the monitor works fine;

The PC fan stays always on (high noise) and the PC doesn't make the boot properly;

I suppose that an hardware component doesn't work, maybe the RAM;

but into the Server I've only a 2GB RAM card, so I can't make a test swapping it with another one...

Does exist a procedure in order to check this issue ?

Or do you advise me to buy a new RAM card and change it as first test ?

Hi,

 

It could be RAM or other hardware itself.

Remove any PCI cards installed which is not necessary for Post.

Remove any external storage devices including USB Key.

Install the RAM into a different slot and check.

Reseat the Processor.

Hi,

thank you for your answer;
I tried to unplug all PCI cards and change the RAM slot but the result it's the same;
What's about "reset processor" ?
Could you explain me how do it ?

Hi,

 

Its "reseat" the processor.

 

Remove power from server.

Remove Processor and put it back into the same slot (Reseat).

You may also clear NVRAM from System Maintenance Switch.

 

How to Clear NVRAM?

CMOS clear jumper : The system board has a CMOS clear jumper (JP12, item 46 from attached image) that allows the system configuration data in non-volatile memory to be cleared.

Hi,

I made NVRAM clear in this way:

- I unplagged the power supply

- I switched the JP12 jupmer to the other position

- I plugged the power supply for about one minute

- I unplagged the power supply

- I put the JP12 jumper on its original position

- I started the PC

 

Is right ?

The situation is the same: fan always on and no image on the monitor

 

I'll try to RESEAT the processor; I'll let you know.

I had an Intel e5620 cpu die and cause the same problem. nothing in ILO to clue you in on the CPU being dead either!

I also tried to unplug all PCI cards and I replaced the RAM card with a new one, but the problem still persists...

I had not yet time to reseat the processor;

I just made the "RESEAT" of the processor but the problem still persists...
To the HP employee: do you think that the mother card is out of order ?

Hi,

 

It could be the System Board or it could also be the Processor or RAM itself.

If you have another set of RAM and a compatible Processor, do test with them before concluding its the system board fault.

I already made the RAM test;
I replaced the 2GB RAM card with a new one of 4 GB but the problem still persists...
I supposed the mother board fails...
