HP Proliant ML150 G6 with Raid

This server came with Small Business Server 2008 preinstalled. I wanted to install VMware ESXi 4 on it and did so. It showed the 2 drives and I selected the first since they should have been both mirrored and I got the warning that the data would be overwritten. That was fine. After the installation, I rebooted and it tried to load Windows. Now, I'm not familiar with hardware RAID so I presume that Small Business Server 2008 wasn't , in fact, overwritten because of the RAID configuration, I guess. How do I flush the O/S from the server to allow me to install another operating system?

Thanks for the information. So, the only way to remove an O/S is to delete the Raid Array?

Re: HP Proliant ML150 G6 with Raid

just delete the array and create a new one

via f8 option
it takes a couple of seconds

enjoy :)

Re: HP Proliant ML150 G6 with Raid

ok. I deleted the array. Showed 2 disks with RAID 1+0. I deleted and recreated the array the same way. The only options I had were Raid 1+0 or Raid0. I selected Raid 1+0. Then, I viewed the logical disks and it showed one disk. Saved it and tried to reinstall. Still same...no disks showed up when I tried to reinstall Small Business Server 2008

I suppose you already set the DVD-drive on top of the boot order via F9, before loading the installation CD?

Did you already upgraded all the fw?

For installing W2k8 I personally would use the latest easy setup CD, select your OS in the link below and go to Software CD and use the latest

Re: HP Proliant ML150 G6 with Raid

try with this easy setup cd as in my prev link and ensure you are booting from the correct raid controller in the bios boot order under f9

Re: HP Proliant ML150 G6 with Raid

I reset the Raid Array to RAID 1+0 and then ran Easy Setup CD. I ran into a problem. Does not register any RAM. Shows 0 RAM. But the BIOS shows 4GB.

btw when choosing raid choose raid 1o it is not realy raid ten it is just a mirror with easy option to ad a disk later , its just the way HP do things dont try to figure it out ....its an odd one ,,
