HP Smart Array P410 Controller Upgrade

Hello All,

I have a DL380 G7 Server with the standard P410 controller. I'm about to purchase a 512MB BBWC module upgrade for the array controller so I can add a disk and expand an existing RAID 5 configuration on an ESX 4.1 host. Can someone give insight to how I can install the module upgrade and reconfigure the RAID array without data loss?

Thanks,
DDK

Re: HP Smart Array P410 Controller Upgrade

DDK,

I don't know if there's ACU for ESX 4.1, but I do know that you need the upgrade including the battery before this will work. Also you need to preserve time to allow the battery to be charged.
The expanding process isn't very hard to do.

Re: HP Smart Array P410 Controller Upgrade

First backup your data, then make sure all of the system BIOS, adapter firmware and drivers are at the latest levels.

There are some known issues with Smart Array controllers and iLO IML messages.

Then download this guide:

Depending upon the licenses installed on your server you may or may not have SAAP installed to configure your array through ORCA or ACU.
