HP Smart array E200 with RAID 5

I have HP ML110 G5 with smart array E200 controller, running 3 harddisks RAID 5 (250GB each).

Today, one of the 250GB failed & I prepared a new 500GB harddisk to replace.

After I replaced the harddisk, power up the server & found the POST did not notice me to press F1 start automatic recovery.

I checked the ACU found the array status still show interim recovery on my Logical drive.

How come the array controller cannot rebuild the array with the new 500GB harddisk ?

Is it must use 250GB harddisk to rebuild the array ? (it is difficult to purchase 250GB harddisk in market now)

hi,

You can use 500 GB drives. The rebuild should start automaticaly, it's not needed to press F1. Just check in ACU, if the rebuild is working. You can find there the percent of the rebuild process, it can take some time.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

Unforunately I already checked the ACU, it is not rebuilding array (no rebuild percentage) , it still show the error message that the harddisk need to be replaced.

hi,

I checked the report. The drives are clean - no errors. But you are using hard drives for workstations. What is about the new drive (500GB). Is it a HP one? Can you try please with a hard drive from HP?

Thanks for your reply.

Actually all of 3 harddisks are third party brand -- Seagate, not HP.

The new drive (500GB) also same brand Seagate.

Is it mean the new drive not compatible with the smart array E200 controller ?

Re: HP Smart array E200 with RAID 5

hi,

It looks so. You can check the quickspecs of the server for all the supported/compatible hard drives.

I had a simlar issue. I think the issue was the new drive was sata3 instead of sata2. Right now I'm stuck trying to get the think to initialize parity.
