HP StorageWork Ultrium 460 interal tape drive

Hi all;

I have installed the Ultrium 460 interal tape drive on the server ML370G4, which runing windows server 2003 with hp psp 740.
the server seems working fine, but when I tried to use the Ultrium tape drive to backup data, it stop and seems hang after backing up more or less 1 or 2GB.

I have also upgraded the 64 bit 133MHz Ultra 320 dual chanel SCSI drive, plus the Ultrium 460 driver, it still having the same issue.

Any hints?

Thanks a lot.

Do you have a fan installed behind the tape drive? I needed one for my internal SW460 in my ML530/570 as the drive was getting too hot after a couple of minutes and shutting itself down. This also caused a ADP1600 error in the event log.

Re: HP StorageWork Ultrium 460 interal tape drive

There is a known problem with the embedded scsi adapter with certain tape drives will operate slower than it should. The fix for this is to flash the firmware on the server. There may be a similar issue with the pci based adapter also.

Is the adapter you're using the embedded? If so, I would recommend making sure the firmware/bios on the server is at the latest rev:

If it's a pci adapter I would recommend the same procedure, except for the scsi adapter:
Bios: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23161.html

Firmware: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/21568.html
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..
