This was taken from a quick specs guide....

"Universal hot-plug tape drive support and native SCSI pass through for tape backup support"

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12030_div/12030_div.pdf

For external tape devices we use an Ultra320, we do not have server with internal hot swappable tape devices so I cannot confirm if the 6i works ok.

The 6i will support the tape drive, I presume this is an external model?

However it is never a good idea to plug a tape drive into an array controller as tape drives and hard disks use work on different block sizes I believe.

It is recommended to use a dedicated SCSI card to connect the tape drive, an HP 64-bit/133-MHz dual channel Ultra320 SCSI adapter 268351-B21 would be ideal.
