HP System Management Homepage Update Fails

I've been updating the SMH on several servers (DL's and BL's, running wk23) from 2.1 or so to the new 3. rev.

On several of these updates, when the update completes the service fails to start. The event log gives event 7000, but no evidence of a problem other than failing. I've tried restarts, uninstalls, reinstalls, different revs...Installs of the 2.1 revs work just fine, but 3. revs break the service. Help?

Hi,

Can you just attach the error_log file found in /hp/hpsmh/logs.

I'm very happy that there are logs...the problem, I think, is that the update shuts down the service, so it stops logging...here's the only thing that shows up after the install.

I have some very new servers on which the 3.0 install fails. If this software is dependent upon other HP software, that should be mentioned in the documentation - I can't honestly just update all the peripheral software on every server just to get this updated. I need to know why this is failing specifically.

System Management HomePage is just a graphical interface that collects the status of all the Insight management agents and displays that info on the screen. The agents needs a protocol to communicate between them, it could be the SNMP or you can use WEBEM. If you don't have SNMP installed and configure or WEBEM install SMH will fail to start.

To fix this issue try:

Install again following this order:

1. First WBEM, download the one that you need depending on you OS x32 or x64 bit:

2. Second Install the Insight Management Agents:
