HP Version Control Agent

HP Version Control Agent 2.1.10.800 (cp008277.exe) will not install on my Windows 2003 Server which is a Proliant ML 350, I am getting an error with ntdll.dll. Has anyone ever ran into this before?

Re: HP Version Control Agent

I can't because it is not showing up in the add/remove programs.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

have you tried to install the entire PSP?

Re: HP Version Control Agent

Yes, this is how I first discovered that the version control agent didn't load during the PSP 8 install.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

hi

well it seems a ml350 g5? am I right?

"I am getting an error with ntdll.dll. Has anyone ever ran into this before?"

how are getting that error? event errors? logs?
when you install PSP? or when you install only the Version Control Agent?

did you tried uninstalling all HP Software (Add/remove programs) and install PSP 7.91? after that you can try 8.0 again

Re: HP Version Control Agent

the server is a ML350 G3.

when I go to try and install I am getting the ntdll.dll error in my application log. The service then in turn will not start at all. PSP 8 is totally installed on the server except for the version control part. Add/Remove does not give me an option to remove version control. I do have a call into HP support they haven't been able to help either.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

hi

and my recommendation before uninstall all you have and install PSP 7.91 just to check if you get the same issue

Re: HP Version Control Agent

That is my problem because it does not show up in the add/remove programs to uninstall it. How does one remove it manually?

Re: HP Version Control Agent

so

try installing PSP 7.91 without uninstalling and check the results

Re: HP Version Control Agent

hi

another workaround that you can try is

in PSP 8.0, 7.91, 7.90 there is a file extension .cmd

something like bp000380.cmd for example (this is for PSP 8.0)

try running that file and let us know

Re: HP Version Control Agent

Hi,

can be that the SUM GUI relies on ntdll.dll.
You can try to run

"setupc cp00xxxx.exe"

or

"hpsum /c cp00xxxx.exe /f:software"

This is a command line install only of this component...the 1st one shouldn't rely on SUM, but not sure(was available method before SUM was developed).

Re: HP Version Control Agent

I'm getting the same error, cannot uninstall and cannot downgrade to 7.91 because the vcagent is listed as being installed by hpsum.

has anyone got a fix for this? I really need to get this resolved too.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

Don't have a solution yet, but I'm running into a very similar problem with the VCA in PSP 8.0a on a Proliant DL360 G3. I was attempting a PSP update from 7.5 to 8.0.

Tried to run the full PSP 8.0a update from the System Management Homepage on the remote server. All seemed to install OK. After rebooting the server, the VCA refuses to start.

It's odd because I've had 5-6 successful PSP updates to 8.0a on other Proliant servers.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

hi
maybe that's why a lot of people are having issue with version control agent
HP recommends when a server needs to update PSP doing it consequentially I mean 7.5 -> 7.7 -> 7.9 -> 8.0

not going to 7.5 to 8.0 or 7.7 to 8.0

check customer advisory it is not the same issue but any similar behavior can be cause by doing that

Version Control Agent (VCA) for Windows Software Fails to Upgrade when the ProLiant Support Pack (PSP) is Upgraded from Version 7.80 to Version 8.00

Re: HP Version Control Agent

Eric Sabo,

Can you post the Application Error that you get in your system.

Is you windows up to date with latest Windows Updates?

Re: HP Version Control Agent

PSP 8.0a VCA often fails to install properly when doing so from the remote server's System Managment Homepage. My most recent failures (of many) was upgrading 2 servers from psp 7.9 to 8.0.
The fix for me has been:
1. Install software psp from the System Management Homepage/VCA
2. Restart server
3. If/when VCA fails, uninstall it using "add/remove programs"
4. Copy the VCA installation package (cp008277.exe)
5. install VCA locally (no boot needed)

Re: HP Version Control Agent

The steps you provided seems like the right way to go,,,but for myself and some other user's who posted; we can not uninstall VCA thru add/remove programs because its not listed...and when I try to re-inatall the vca agent again, the installation process quits because it detects it as already installed, even if i try to force installation, i get the results.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

I had to complete hack the registy in order to get the VCA to install. Sorry the post is so late but I have been busy lately.

Re: HP Version Control Agent

Karlo, I have tried the exe form PSP 8.0 nad no luck. The installer stops saying it already exists.

Eric, can you elaborate on what you mean by a complete registry hack?

Thanks
