HP5000XR UPS not recognized in Win2k3 Server Standard +SP1

Have a HP5500XR UPS connected to a DL380 via serial.Trying to HP Power Manager 4, serial port Com1, the software fails to find the UPS.
Have tried another serial cable for the UPS and no joy either.
Nothing else is using the Com port, this is a fresh built server up to date with all current patches from MS.

Suggestions please.

Which generation server - DL380 ?
Try changing the IRQ settings in RBSU - System Options - Embedded Serial Port.

Thanks already found the ILO thing yesterday and tried it. No go.

Also from memory the DL380 is a G4.

Ill try changing the com port irq and see how that goes.

thanks anyway!

No go on the IRQ change, I am leaning towards the serial port on the UPS being pooched.

Tried the firmware update for the UPS and got the following error.

eFlash Error: XCPERR_CONNECTFAILED
eFlash completed with exit code = 3 <0x0003>

Hi,

is the UPS Service from Windows running? It shouldn't be.
Can you open a serial session via Hyperterminal?

no UPS service is not running on the server.
We dont use that cr@p Windows one.

Re: HP5000XR UPS not recognized in Win2k3 Server Standard +SP1

Hello,

I have the same issue at one of my customer site,

This appends on many servers with with HP Rack and power tools.

At the moment we declare the UPS, it works the first time. After that no way to see the UPS anymore. Event the Serial port is stucked for any other use (Like Hypterterminal connection to any other equipment).

The UPS service is offline, and the ILO configuration was made according to the previous link showed.

This thinks appends on many servers with Many UPS so it is not Hardware.

If Anyone finds a solution please let me know, For some months no we don't have any corrective answer from HP Support.

Best regards.

Hey Mentos,

We tried the following steps with one of our customers and it did work..

Erase the Non Volatile Memory from RBSU

Check for bent or broken Pins on the Serial COM Port

Search and execute the file named "Cpqlpcc.exe├в . This will restore installation defaults for the HP Legacy Port Configuration

Re: HP5000XR UPS not recognized in Win2k3 Server Standard +SP1

I to have excactly the same problem and its not the CLI causing the problems as the ILO is now completely disabled.

The file you talk of CPQLPCC.EXE is for server 2000 and really doesnt apply to 2003 server i think.

the only thing i have left to try now is the RBSU volitile memory clearance, Which i hope cures my problem.

Its a very strange problem as i have the Rack and Power manager Installed and working perfectly on two other servers in 2 different cabinets.

I hope someone at HP reads this and comes up with a list of supported and tested reasons as to what to do to fix the problem.

I have tried it all now so i guess the RBSU is my last step before i order an snmp card for the UPS and have done with it.
