HPE Smartupdate ISSUE: Add Node failed for Node - localhost Reason: Failed to retrieve OS details
Hi Team,
We are trying to update the firmware using smartupdate cli,
We are following the below steps and we are facing the issue like not able to activate and reboot after deploying the firmware.
Please help us with the correct steps if we missed and suggest us with the soution.
Steps are:
sudo ./smartupdate add --nodes <nodeip> --username="<username>" password="<password>"
sudo ./smartupdate add --baselines "<baselinepath>
sudo ./smartupdate inventory --nodes <node_ip> --baselines "<homedir>/packages/"
sudo ./smartupdate deploy --nodes 10.1.213.133
Copying sum files to /var/tmp/localsum
Deploy in progress...................
1. 10.1.213.133
Status: Some of the components have been staged on iLO Repository and requires a reboot to be activated
sudo ./smartupdate activate --nodes <nodeip>
Activate in progress..
Activated <node_ip> failed. (Cannot perform the operation now. Reason: Activate command does not apply to to Node type : ILO)
sudo ./smartupdate --s --reboot_always
Copying sum files to /var/tmp/localsum
Add Node failed for Node - localhost Reason: Failed to retrieve OS details for Remote Node:
Sending Shutdown request to engine
Waiting for engine to shutdown
Successfully shutdown the service.
SUM engine process handle is null
Thanks,
Thiyagu

Re: HPE Smartupdate ISSUE: Add Node failed for Node - localhost Reason: Failed to retrieve OS detail
Obviously you sent the updates to the ILO5 repository of a Gen10 blade.
You probably need to reboot the server manually now - this probably depends on some other settings within ILO.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HPE Smartupdate ISSUE: Add Node failed for Node - localhost Reason: Failed to retrieve OS detail
Hi Torsten,
We are looking for a way to update firmware components without any single manual intervention.
We are trying to find reboot options either using smartupdate cli console commands or api's instead of doing it manualy?
could you please help us on this?
Thanks,
Thiyagu

Re: HPE Smartupdate ISSUE: Add Node failed for Node - localhost Reason: Failed to retrieve OS detail
It is a bit more complicated now. More secure too ...
As said, it depends on the method you used.
From SUM 8.2.0 User Guide:
iLO 5 update options
Gen10 servers with iLO 5 allow you to update the servers two ways:
• Deploy updates through the operating system with SUM.
• Deploy updates through the iLO 5. SUM loads the updates to the iLO 5. iSUT deploys the updates
based on the iSUT mode. This requires:
◦ Integrated Smart Update Tools 2.0.0.0 or later
◦ AMS management tools
For more information about iSUT, see http://www.hpe.com/info/sut-docs.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
