HUGE problem, need help!
Hi, I have a HP Proliant ML110 G5 server, running Windows 7 64-bit, and today I purchased an Intel® Xeon® processor E3110 to replace the current one which is the Intel® Pentium® processor E2160 (1.80 GHz, 65W, 800MHz FSB, 1MB).
Now, I know that removing heatsink and applying new thermal paste etc is what you do, but I'm not sure if it's the CPU or the PSU that's the problem. What's going on now is, when I set everything up with my cables, and plug the main power cord into the back of the computer, it makes this weird sound, almost like it's breathing. I opened it up and had a look inside whilst I was plugging in the cord to the PSU, and noticed that the PSU LED was flashing green when it was trying to boot up, then going off when it powered down literally 1 second later. The heartbeat LED was flashing green also, and the Standby one was solid green.
Can anybody give me a hand here, as I really need my PC for the next few days, and can't afford to put it into a PC repair shop, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: HUGE problem, need help!
Hi,
Its recommended to update BIOS before upgrading the processor or before adding second processor.
In your case, please refer to the below article.

Re: HUGE problem, need help!
Thank you, when I try and boot up, i don't get a screen it just continues to repeat what I said, until I pull the cord out from the PSU. How do I go about getting the BIOS update, if I can't get to the BIOS screen?
Thanks

Re: HUGE problem, need help!
Hi,
How about installing the old processor E2160 back into the server and when server boots, update the BIOS.
Thank You!

Re: HUGE problem, need help!
I have tried this, all to no avail, I think it's the PSU that's went. Like I say, the power doesn't even boot up, it starts for like a split second, then goes off, then on, then off etc. Until I pull out the chord from the PSU. I will try it again, and let you know how I get on.
Thanks.

Re: HUGE problem, need help!
Hi, I have re-installed the old CPU back into the system, and powered up, at least thats a start. Now what has happened this time, is the fans have came on and power is running fine, but I'm now not getting any display on my screen. Any ideas?
Thanks.
