Hangs during smartstart before Windows 2000 copying begins.
The server has had new disks, additional memory and a second CPU installed. Post-installation tests of these new parts give no errors. CPU stepping OK.
Smartstart is version 5.30. Upgrade of BIOS and SmartArray done to latest available.
Intial steps OK, arraycontroller OK and configured for mirroring. all the RIB, BIOS and WEB setup OK. Reboots to create temporary swap partition, does that and then hangs with the Smartstart VAN picture.
Any ideas?
I know we had problems on a similar server with CD not working properly. After reboot to begin copying Smartstart files, it hung. But this time that stage has already passed.

Re: Hangs during smartstart before Windows 2000 copying begins.
Try removing the extra RAM you put in, I had a similar problem and it worked by removing the RAM. If not use floppy disks instead of CD, create by using Disk Builder...that helped me out on some of the servers I had issues with.

Re: Hangs during smartstart before Windows 2000 copying begins.
Check the bios version of the CD drive. Compaq have issued a new bios 9.0C which should prevent this.
This is the problem description from SP14377.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
During SmartStart for Servers Release 4.80 installation, any
Compaq server configured with a Teac (slim line) CD-ROM may
hang (ie: while copying files to the system partition).
During this failure, the following may occur:
- The CD may become inaccessible from the CD-ROM drive.
- The CD may eject from the CD-ROM drive during the file
copy operation.
- The user may be prompted to re-insert the CD in the
CD-ROM drive.
This problem occurs with systems using Teac (slim line) CD-ROM
drives and 700MHz (or higher) processor speeds. To date, the
problem has been seen with Smart Start 4.80 CD's with the
marking "ZOMAX" located in the inner area of the back of the
CD failing while copying system partion files, and on some
Windows 2000 installations.
