Re: Hard stop error on a Proliant 1600
Disconnect every additional /Optional PCI card and disconnect all HDD (tapes also if Included)
Can you simulate Smart start with till point where it report no physical drive detected?

Re: Hard stop error on a Proliant 1600
slot 6 3200 initialising, 0 logical drives
1785- slot 6 drive array not configured
scanning for scsi devices, no scsi devices detected
run system configuration utility
press f1 to continue
pres f10 for system partition utilities
i press f1, the cd spins up, the screen goes blank. it fails to read the smartstart cd, and then the hard stop error apppears.
This is a compaq pl1600 that we have put together from bits of 2 servers to make one. there appears to be no error lights, and no post errors.
Thanks for the help so far. anymore would be highly appreciated

Re: Hard stop error on a Proliant 1600
Run Erase utility from SP22002
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/17918.html
Verify CD ROM at Cable select, reset cable, if there any additional Cards beside 3200 remove them
Make sure CD Rom is Good
Update system ROM
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/romtabl.html
Update Sa 3200 if needed (you need diskette #1 only)
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/14694.html
You won't be able install system Partition till you detect drives
Once again there is on board SCSI Controller and both messages comes close to each other if SCSI on board can't see that would be normal
If drives detected try from Diskettes kit SCU
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/13227.html
See if Drive can be detected if SCSI cable connected from Cage to SCSI On board try both Channels
