Having Trouble Upgrading Firmware

I have a dl360 G5 with a Smart Array 6404 controller, running Win2008 64-bit. When I try to upgrade the firmware it would fail saying it can't find the hardware. I tried both versions (offline and Windows version) I get the same result. How can I update the firmware? Thanks!

Are you using the firmware DVD ISO and burning it properly? If hardware will not update from this boot disk, you might need to replace it. I would also figure out which firmware is on it now. You don't want to jump more than 2 revisions at a time.

Re: Having Trouble Upgrading Firmware

It's currently at version 2.34. The firmware with the battery cache bug. Was trying to go to v2.84. I tried the ISO version and had no luck. Smart Start will see the controller, Win2008 sees the controller. The firmware install will not see it.

Are you running 2008 R2? I found R2 better on Windows 2003 for support on ML370 G5 and DL380 G5. Both 64bit.

The 9.3 firmware is for the entire server. What is your BIOS date and revision.

Match your date of your BIOS to the revision. If its more than 2 revisions back, update with one that is within 2 revisions. The newer drivers need newer firmware on the server.

Re: Having Trouble Upgrading Firmware

I'm running Windows 2008 R2 Standard, 64-bit.
My server BIOS is: P58 2010.04.26.
Smart Array 6404/256 BIOS: 2.34.
I tried looking for old SM6404 BIOS, none are online.

The server originally had Linux, before installing win2008.

Re: Having Trouble Upgrading Firmware

hi

see here

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=1132643&swItem=MTX-d953e02acf304fa4bc2c893b8b&prodNameId=378442&swEnvOID=54&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=0

it has most likely been removed from the newer firmware cd's so see this next link for the revisions and details of what has been removed from which cd release. you need one from version 7.50 onwards but not later than probably about 8.50

download an older version from these links too
