Help installing a DL360 G2 server with windows 2000 server

Please help me before I break something.

I am trying to install win2000 server on my dl360 G2 server. I am trying in the following manner.

1. I bootup with win98 boot disk
2. Create an 18GIG FAT32 partition using fdisk
3. Reboot then format the drive
4. Goto my cd and start installing
5. It completes the initial copy to the disk then say I must remove my stiffy from the drive and reboot.
6. I do that then is start to further install and this is where it DIES
7. I give me a error message saying "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DRIVE"

Please HELP ME FIX THIS cause i might just as well break this box cause I cannot use it.

Why are you using Win98 Boot Disk ?
Use Smartstart to a quick installation.

I tried smartstart and got the same error so that does not help.

BTW I have 7 DL360 G1 this is my first G2 and was able to install all those with the win98 disk no problem.

Are you *BOOTING* with the smart start disk? If you are installing W2k, how does the Win98 boot disk come into play?

I've installed dozens of DL360 G2 machines with the smart-start CD with no problem.

I'm trying to do it without the smartstart disc.

Hi

If you wish to bypass the Smart Start procedure, you can choose a manual installation of Windows 2000 but you don't need a W98 floppy : if you boot then run F8 ORCA to create your raid volume then boot from the Windows 2000 CD, F6 to specifiy the driver for the raid controller , it should run.
I think the INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DRIVE comes from the fact you never specify the driver for your controller . DL360G2 comes with Smart 5i so you will need the cpqciss.sys driver ...

Okay now this is getting where I wanna go. Now where do I get this drive cause I cannot seem to find it.

You can find 5i Controller Driver at http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/14532.html
Go half way down page and download CP002076.EXE -- Extract this to a Diskette to specify -- Also remember to press "F9" on Boot to set Controller Order "5i Controller" 1st
