Help installing win2003 on DL360 G1

OK I'm setting up a dev server for web dev and can't seem to get 2003 to install. It locks up when trying to enter the finial stages of setup (loading windows 2003). The current bios is P21 11/15/02, and smart array controller is v1.42. Tried using the Smartstart 5.50 and nothing happens. any help would be great.

Have you tried booting off of a Firmware & Maintenance CD to ensure all your hardware is up to date?

Tried the Firmware & Maintenance CD and ran into a similar problem I had seen trying to use the smartstart. It say "The firmware CD doesn't support deployment for this server". Stuck again. any thoghts.

Version 7.70 should work on a DL360 G1...

Yep tried 7.70 and still says it's not supported. Same as the maintance disc.

SmartStart 5.50 is the last version that works with ML/DLxxx G1 servers. SmartStart 6.xx+ works only with ML/DLxxx G2+ servers. SmartStart 5.50 was released in 2002 IIRC, and I'm not sure that Windows 2003 was supported OS back then. Try clearing server configuration using SmartStart's 5.50 System Erase Utility.

P.S.
Your BIOS is up to date, but Smart Array Array controller is very old. But since current Firmware Maintenance CD does not support G1 servers, you can upgrade the firmware using Online firmware Update for Windows or Linux only.

The SmartStart 5.50 did not work either, same message stating smartstart isn't supported on the server. This server is a compaq dl360 with Compaq Integrated Smart Array Controller. Let me know if anyone needs any additional details.

Try getting into the Compaq System Configuration Utility when the server boots by pressing F10 during POST.

If you are not able to get in to the SCU by pressing F10, download the SCU available at the URL mentioned below and boot with the diskette-1 to run the SCU (it requires 4 diskettes totally):

Change the Boot order in the SCU and then try booting the server from a floppy diskette or the Smart Start CD.

Try finding an older SmartStart Firmware & Maintenance CD, say version 7.4 or 7.5. I had similar problems with the 7.6 and 7.7 on a DL380, but was successful with an older version.
In the Drivers & Downloads, the only links for the firmware CD are for 7.5 and 7.4.

They are zipped ISO images, about 390M in size, but I think this will fix your problem.

I can confirm Neal's findings above.

I've just tried booting a DL360 G1, from Firmware CD 7.61 and it won't, saying its unsupported.

Firmware CD 7.40b boots fine.

I suspect the same will be true for SmartStart, even though the download pages for the DL360 G1 still show that 7.70 should work...
