Hi as stated in HP Product Bulletin.

Upon the event of a failed processor in a multi-processing environment, the system will automatically reboot and use the remaining good processor(s).
In Case of failure of one processor the whole system reboots. Its not the case with IBM or Dell.
Can someone give me any elaborative answer why HP machines required this reboot and in critical servers like DL980 a reboot can cause alot of problem.

Because of multi-threading and SMP. The old processor with four cores might keep trying to use some of the cores on a failed CPU. Upon reboot it disables that CPU to prevent data corruption.
