High Fan Speed on DL160G5 running Windows server 2008

Hi,

Have installed Windows Server 2008 onto a HP DL160G5 and the fans are continually running at full speed.

I have installed the PSP 8.0 package but didn't make any difference. Server is running the latest firmware also.

Any ideas

Regards

Chris

Hi,

Already had the latest firmware. Re-installed anyway but did not resolved the issue.

Thanks

hi

this might sound weird for you but we can give it a try

updating Firmware for Lights-Out 100

Since I know 3.0 it's the initial release for this servers and 3.01 it's a new release

Chris, Could you solve this question? We had the same 3 servers DL160 G5 and the same problem.

Re: High Fan Speed on DL160G5 running Windows server 2008

I'm experiencing the same issue.

So far I've tried overwriting the BIOS (via ROMPaq) with 2008.04.09.
I've also tried updating the BMC firmware to 3.05 (2008.08.05).

The fans continue to run at over 8000RPM. Is this normal? The noise does seem excessive.

Re: High Fan Speed on DL160G5 running Windows server 2008

Hi, Alex.
Could you please give it a try with the last instruction provided by Karlo?
I saw that after that recommendation ChrisD did not report the same problem.

The Firmware upgrade is in this link:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3580694&swItem=MTX-784faa66e5cf49e6b79b341957&prodNameId=3580695&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=3

Please let us know the results.

Re: High Fan Speed on DL160G5 running Windows server 2008

Here you have a screenshot of the normal fan speed on the DL160 G5. I accessed the equipment through LO-100. Fans with speed of 8000rpm is a normal behavior on the Server.

Also; on this equipment the declared A-Weighted sound power levels (LWAd) and declared average bystander position A-Weighted sound pressure levels (LpAm) when the product is operating in a 23├В┬░C ambient environment are the following:

Idle
LWAd 6.86
LpAm 52.36dBA

Operating
LWAd 6.89
LpAm 52.60dBA

Noise emissions were measured in accordance with ISO 7779 (ECMA 74) and declared in accordance with ISO 9296 (ECMA 109).

You will be able to find this information in the DL160 G5 Quickspecs, under Acoustic Noise section:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12902_na/12902_na.html#Technical%20Specifications

I hope this information helps.

Juan K!
