High failure rate on ProLiant DL380p Gen8 / EG0300FBVFL SAS disk
Hi everyone,
We have a pair for DL 380s and have seen a high percentage (60%) of disk failure for RAID1/5 arrays using SAS disks model EG0300FBVFL.
After getting this escalated up to HP engineering they have come to us asking to update the storage controller firmware. We are questioning how much would help as the replaced disks (different batch number) seem to be running fine.
We have requested HP to replace all of the disks from the same batch (S/N KLH7xxxxx) but they are requesting us to do the firmware upgrade first. I was wondering if anyone else had problems with disks failure for this model/serial number.
Thanks

Re: High failure rate on ProLiant DL380p Gen8 / EG0300FBVFL SAS disk
Was there a pattern to the failed disks ? i.e. was it every other disk... every third disk... or random locations ?

Random so far. We didn't see the same disk/slot fail and we they failed on different RAID groups. About the same number of disks failed on both servers, 3 and 4 respectively iirc.
