Hot-Plug PCI Question

Hot-Plug PCI Question

We have a DL580G3 that has a defective HBA. Has anyone ever done a hot-plug pci card replacement? Do you disable the adapter first in the device list, then turn off the power on the slot? Or does powering the slot off automatically cause the OS to think the adapter is disabled?

Thanks,
Todd

Re: Hot-Plug PCI Question

I would say the second option should work (however have never done that myself).

On the other hand: what stops you from disabling the card in the device manager first? Does it make a huge differnce which option you will chose?

Re: Hot-Plug PCI Question

I think I will just disable the adapter first and then power off the pci slot (just to be safe). I want to minimize BSOD chances. I trust the hardware, just not Microsoft....

Thanks,
Todd
