Hot Plug vs Non Hot Plug drives

Greetings all. I have an ML330 I'm using in a test environment. It has no array controller or Compaq SCSI drives in it at the moment.

I'd like to add an inexpensive array controller and three drives. I was wondering if I can safely purchase hot-plug versions of a U320 or Ultra3 drive and remove it from the carrier using it as a non hot-plug?

Are there any critical differences between the Compaq hot plug and non hot-plug drives?

well, the main difference is the connector, it will be difficult to connect a hot-plug disk to a scsi cable directly, because the HP disk have a SCA connector wich contain the scsi signal and the power supply.
exept this, the disks have no differences and if you found a converter youcan attach it withou a HotSwap cage.

Thanks Marino. Apparently there are companies that make the SCA to 68-pin adapters. scadapter.com sells them as well as connectxpress.com. I wasn't sure if others here had used them or if the whole concept was more hassle than its worth.
