Hot plug Raid Memory - DL580G2

Hi !
I want to know the difference between Hot plug Raid Memory Technology ( DL580 G2) and ChipKill memory (IBM xSeries) .
Please , let me know that detailly.
Best regards

Re: Hot plug Raid Memory - DL580G2

Hello,
Here is the information as for as our DL580 is concerned. For IBM's chip kill technology please contact IBM.
Hot-Plug PCI Reservation depends on the particular OS being used plus other factors too. Compaq Configuration Utility or RBSU allows the PCI Hot Plug Reservation Option set to either "Normal", which only allocates 32MB per hot plug slot, or "Extensive", which allocates 128MB RAM per hot plug slot. The default setting for Windows 2000 is "Normal". This is because Windows 2000 can address all the RAM in the server and is more likely to have contention for memory resources with Hot Added PCI devices.
The memory reserved is for the adapter configuration process in the hot plug events. If there is not sufficient configuration resources available , the adapter configuration during the hot adding event will fail. In general, Network Interface Controllers (NICs) require much less memory than array controllers.

For example, DL580 has two PCI buses. Each bus has 2 hot-pluggable slots plus a virtual slot (3 total). Therefore, it has 6 slots that reserve Hot Plug PCI resources. For all 6 empty Hot Plug PCI slots (no PCI devices installed), the cap is the following:

Disabled - 6slots x 0MB(reserved memory space) = 0MB

Normal - 6slots x 40MB(reserved memory space) = 240MB

Extensive - 6slots x 144MB(reserved memory space) = 864 MB

Note: One NC3134 NIC is always installed in a Hot Plug PCI slot; therefore, for a normal scenario, the number of empty Hot Plug PCI slots in a DL 580 should be 5.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
