Hot swappable drives

I just hot swapped an HP 36.4 Gig 10k Ultra320
SCSI drive in my Compaq DL380 but my system doesn't seem to recognize it. There are no drive lights on. I don't detect any problems otherwise. I did the exact same thing on another server and the system saw it a rebuilt the drive.

Re: Hot swappable drives

Hi,

do you have Samrt array controller ?
Which generation is the server - G1,2,3,4,5?.
you use onboard or other controller?
You tried another slot?

If it is not a smart array, it is normal for the rebuild to not start automatically

Re: Hot swappable drives

I do have a Smart Array controller. It's not on board. The server is a G2. I don't have another slot to try it in. I've had the drive in for two days now.

Re: Hot swappable drives

Hi,

this is either an old HDD firmware with newer controller firmware or new HDD firmware with older controller firmware or a defective backplane slot.

You can try to update the firmware of the HDDs and the controller with FW CD and if the problem persists, then it is 90% backplane problem if the HDd is recognized in another server...

Regards..
