How many Raids can I have on Storage Controller HP Smart Array P420i/1G ?
I have a HP proliant ML350P Gen8 XE e5-2630 2.3-15mb server with Storage Controller HP Smart Array P420i/1G !
For the moment I have 2 raids with 3 disk in each and I want to add a third raid with raid 4+0 (4disks) on the same Storage Controller!
The manual says: SAS SATA storage with RAID 0/1/10/5/6, but Im not sure how to read that correct
Can I add a third raid 4+0 (4disks) and use the same controller?

Re: How many Raids can I have on Storage Controller HP Smart Array P420i/1G ?
The question is how to do this.
The ML350p Gen8 has either a 6 disk LFF or 8 disk SFF cage.
Fir connecting up to 3 cages into this server, you need to "expand" the SAS connections. In earlier server models there was a sas expander card used, but here you need optional expander disk backplanes to connect like this:
(the user guide has all information)
You can have up to 24 sff disks installed, the controller can manage up to 64 logical drives, if a cache module is installed.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Thanks for the reply!
Now I have 1 cage with 2 raid in!
I only need add 1 more cage for the third raid, if I only use 2 cages, do I need optional expander disk backplanes?

You need cage and backplane (as a kit), see the user guide!
