How to control hdd cage with 1 raid controller?

Hi,

I've a DL380 Gen 8. The server have 2 hard drive cage. Currently cage 1 is control by P420 and cage 2 is control by P420i embedded.

My management need both cage to control by 1 controller. Either by the P420i embedded controller or a card.

Does HBA adapter able to fufill this requirement?

Or what hardware to install that would fufill this requirement?

What we try to achieve is both hard drive cage to be manage by 1 controller. Either by the embedded raid controller or the raid controller.

Current setup is

cage 1 connected to P420

cage 2 connected to P420i (embedded)

If I replace the raid controller P420 with an HBA card eg: H220. Does the HBA card able to be managed by P420i?

As I know the sas expander card is not compatible with DL Gen8 servers. What card can enable both cage hdd to be control by the embedded controller or the raid controller?

It is not possible without a seperate controller, please see this section from the Quickspecs page here...

NOTE: The optional +8SFF drive bay requires an additional internal storage controller be selected. HP recommends the HP Smart Array P420/1GB FBWC 6Gb 2-ports Int SAS Controller (P/N 631670-B21).

A standard HBA like the H220 is just a SAS card NOT an array controller.
You'd use this for connecting to a tape drive or autoloader / library.
