What's the best/easiest way to mirror an already configured drive attached (as a JBOD)to a Smart Array 5300 controller, by adding a new harddrive and the mirror the 2 drives ?

SolutionSO what you have is a single drive attached to a 5300 controller- Correct?? The controller does not support JBOD; what you would have with a single drive in an array is a RAID 0 logical drive.
You would need another drive with at least as much space as the first drive. Then from the array configuration utility you will need to Expand your array to include the new HDD, after the expansion you will need to migrate the RAID 0 logical drive to RAID 1.

Re: How to create a mirror using SA5300 with 1 configured OS drive..
either your terminology or the SA5300's broken. A single disk drive that is presented to a server _is_ called a JBOD.
